Information for seekers of the Orthodox Faith
Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church always welcomes inquirers and those who are seeking to learn about and embrace the fullness of the Orthodox faith. If you are interested in learning about Orthodoxy, you likely have encountered countless resources online. The next (and most essential) step is to visit an Orthodox Church in person, attend one of her rich services, reach out to the parish priest, and discuss your interest and journey with him. The Orthodox faith is not a set of intellectual propositions; it is the life in Christ, that needs to be experienced and lived out within the Body of Christ, the Church.
At Holy Transfiguration, we welcome seekers who wish to join themselves to the Orthodox Church, by enrolling as catechumens (learners). In preparing catechumens for reception into the Orthodox Church, we focus on 3 components, all of which are critically important:
- Catechism/instruction,
- Prayer life (communal and personal), and
- Spiritual guidance
The catechumenate is usually about 1 year, but it varies with each person. Prospective catechumens should consult the following General Instructions for the Catechumenate. This is not intended to be a legalistic process, but a spiritual journey. A list of recommended resources is also available for catechumens to consult.
